“Without explanation, but through duration, rhythm and framing, the films and installations inevitably tell their story.”

Spatializing Cinema
Claire Atherton, editor and artistic collaborator of Chantal Akerman

Claire Atherton, artistic collaborator of Chantal Akerman, talks with film critic Dana Linssen about the relationship between film and installation in the work of Akerman.

Interview Claire Atherton by Anna Abrahams

Claire Atherton, editor and artistic collaborator of Chantal Akerman, talks about their years of collaboration in the video interview below. In their work together, they sought the balance between apparent opposites: structure and improvisation, intimacy and isolation, greater history and everyday life, being on the road and homeliness. Without explanation, but through duration, rhythm and framing, the films and installations inevitably tell their story.

The video interview is a preview of the conversation between Atherton and Dana Linssen (NRC Handelsblad) on 3 July, in which they will delve deeper into the collaboration between Atherton and Akerman.
