Chantal Akerman retrospective in Tokyo

From October 2 to October 24, the Institut français de Tokyo is organising a important retrospective on Chantal Akerman’s oeuvre. Additionally to a large selection of her films, you’ll be able to see Sami Frey’s film, Autour de Jeanne Dielman (1975), about the behind the scenes of Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. You’ll also be able to enjoy a reading of Akerman’s Ma Mère rit (2013) and followed by a discussion, by China Nagata.

There are also some presentations and discussions planned around the screenings. There will be a few presentations and conferences by critic and cinema manager of the Institut, Abi Sakamoto. Some screenings will also be accompanied by Marilyn Watelet, Akerman’s producer and long time friend, as a well as a video-conference with editor and friend, Claire Atherton.
